Measure for Measure poster

At the outset of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure, the Duke of Vienna takes a leave of absence and his deputy decides to crack down on premarital sex. Accusations surface, identities get swapped, heads roll, the deputy himself gets embroiled, and mayhem breaks loose. I sourced the images for this poster from The Met’s public domain collection. The heads on the scale belong to Viennese judges drawn in 1623, the year that the play was published.
